Dushanbe is resistant to earthquakes of magnitude 8.5 and 9

Dushanbe is resistant to earthquakes with a force of 8.5 and 9 points, Nizom Mirzozoda, head of the Committee for Construction and Architecture, stated today at a press conference.

As an example, he cited the magnitude 6 earthquake that occurred in Dushanbe several years ago and which did not have a serious impact on the multi-story buildings of Dushanbe, writes Asia Plus.

«Although the buildings cracked and the paint flaked off, they did not collapse», — said Mirzozoda.

According to him, «most of the buildings being constructed in Dushanbe are frame structures».

«The structural part of the buildings is made of reinforced concrete, and the lower part – of columns (piles). The part under the building is constructed taking into account earthquake resistance», — he added.

Meanwhile, he noted that, because of the tragedy in Turkey and Syria, in Tajikistan it was decided to create a pile-expertise department within the Committee’s expertise department.

«Only after checking for earthquake resistance and compliance with standards will we grant permission for construction», — said Mirzozoda.
