Coating waterproofing in the bathroom

A bathroom is a room to which special requirements are placed. Splashed or spilled water and condensation running down the walls in streams accumulate on the floor and then penetrate into the concrete slab. Porous concrete easily absorbs moisture and gradually deteriorates. In addition, a humid warm environment is favorable for the growth and reproduction of fungi and bacteria that release into the air toxins dangerous to people.

To ensure protection in the room from excess moisture or from the consequences of pipe leaks, waterproofing of the bathroom is necessary even under the tile. The most common option for solving this problem — is coating waterproofing. The main advantage of coating waterproofing – with its use a seamless, strong but elastic coating is created. A plus is also that it does not require a perfectly even surface and can be applied to any substrate.

There are bituminous and acrylic compositions, as well as their mixtures. They are applied in the same way: with them the entire bathroom floor is covered, extending at least 10 centimeters onto the walls. The walls around all moisture sources within a radius of 50 cm from them are also covered. A good solution will also be to form a "little tub" out of the waterproofing in the plumbing box, so that in the event of a leak the water collects in it.

For gluing tile onto the waterproofing, it is better to use a special reinforced pliable tile adhesive. Carefully study the instructions on the packaging – not every adhesive can reliably hold tile on such a substrate.
