The hinges tore out of the chipboard. What to do?

Particleboard (chipboard) is not the strongest material, but all cabinet furniture is made precisely from it. MDF is a much more durable material, but it is used only in facades. The fragility and brittleness of particleboard leads to us often hearing the same problem — the hinges have been torn out of the particleboard. Can something be done, or do you need to buy new furniture?

Such a problem can definitely be solved. And the method of solution depends on the scale of the problem. It often happens that the hinges are fastened with ordinary self-tapping screws, which are not very suitable for particleboard. Then, when the hinge is torn out, holes remain in the particleboard in which these self-tapping screws can no longer grip onto anything. Then there is a very simple solution — change the fasteners to Euro screws for particleboard. They have a larger diameter and are specially designed for particleboard.

But if the seating spots for the hinges have crumbled away completely and no fastener simply holds there anymore, then there is no need to despair either. There is a reliable way to fix this: you need to mix epoxy resin with particleboard sawdust in a 50/50 ratio and putty the damaged areas with the resulting mixture. After the resin hardens, place the hinge in its rightful spot and drill new holes for the fasteners. It is better to immediately fasten the hinge with the correct fastener: with Euro screws for particleboard, so that the problem does not arise again.
